Pleasant Valley Bridge Erection Plan

Contractor: Wildish Standard Paving

This project involved replacing both the eastbound and westbound concrete bridges on I-84 over Old Highway 30 with two steel plate girder bridges. McGee Engineering was responsible for developing the beam erection plan. This included determining pick points for each piece of the plate girder to ensure girder stability during handling. Additionally we designed the temporary towers that supported the individual pieces while the splices were completed and the temporary bracing to handle the rolling tendency caused by the radiused girders and wind loading during erection operations. The contractor also utilized McGee Engineering-designed “glommers” to pick the girder pieces. We were able to work closely with the contractor, Engineer of Record, and ODOT to successfully complete the girder erection plan.

The first field piece of each girder line set on the permanent abutment and temporary shoring towers.
