McGee Engineering provided design services for an emergency bridge construction project near Kalama, Washington. During a large storm in January 2009 the existing road fill and culvert washed out, leaving a 120’ long hole in the road and the landowner with limited access for trucks and logging equipment. McGee Engineering designed a 139’ span, 26’ wide bridge to accommodate 2 lanes of off-highway truck traffic on a 1000’ radius curve and 3% super elevation. The bridge uses a driven pile foundation to support four precast, prestressed concrete girders with a cast-in-place concrete deck. The design was completed in early February, construction began in late February, and the bridge was opened to traffic in mid-May.
