Project Summary:
McGee Engineering designed a prestressed concrete structure to replace a failing rail car near Grand Ronde, Oregon in 2026. The existing in-service structure was shut down by McGee Engineering in 2025 after a routine inspection revealed a failing non-redundant member. Taking action ensured the safety of the logging crews unaware of the issue. Concrete caps were cast atop driven steel piles to support four 74’-10” long prestressed concrete slabs (manufactured by Knife River Prestress).
The new structure has restored Hampton Lumber’s high-traffic logging route and maintained open fish habitat upstream along Agency Creek. The new bridge opened up for operation just under 11 months after the initial discovery of the previous structure’s failing member.
